Blackjack is King
Good news to blackjack lovers! A recent report concluded that the king of casino table games is blackjack. Of course, there are some who dispute that poker is more popular in casinos than blackjack. The poker boom has definitely added weight to this assertion. Yet no matter what the real deal is, one thing is for sure – blackjack can be found in any casino anywhere in the world.
Why is blackjack so well-loved by gamblers – both online and offline? The answer is as simple as the game. Blackjack is fairly easy to learn and the odds are good for the player. Blackjack actually can trace its roots to France. It used to be called Vingt en Un – the French word for 21. It was played as early as the 18th century and obviously, it has gained leaps and bounds in popularity since then. From continental Europe to the US to Asia, blackjack is a household name in the gambling world now.
As a testament to blackjack’s popularity, casino owners and managers are constantly finding ways to improve their clients’ gaming experience. In fact, casinos all over the world are now promoting games that are derived from blackjack. In fact, a new term has come up for this kind of game – carnival games. The idea behind carnival games is that anyone who has basic knowledge about blackjack can play them without any major problems. With the added jackpots attached to carnival games, more and more people are trying out their luck at them as well.
The trend of creating spin off games for already popular games is not limited to blackjack. In fact, there are countless carnival games also based on poker. Some examples would be Three-Card poker, Caribbean Stud poker, and Let It Ride. As for the blackjack based carnival games, perhaps the best one would be Spanish 21. This blackjack spin off has similar odds to that of blackjack’s. In fact, that is one of the main reasons that Spanish 21 has risen in popularity. To add to its allure, this carnival game has the attractive rule that the player’s blackjack is an automatic winner. That is, even if the dealer gets a blackjack as well, the player still wins. Of course, not all is perfect. Spanish 21 has a big catch – the deck does not contain any 10. That would mean that hands amounting to 21 are harder to obtain. Still, that doesn’t seem to lessen the attractiveness of this carnival game.
Spanish 21 is just one of the many carnival games that attest to blackjack’s popularity. Another factor that has contributed to blackjack’s rise to fame is the Universal Blackjack Tour. New rules and episodes high in action as well as the chance for the average Joe to join in has made this tournament a closely followed one. Following the steps of the World Series of Poker, hopefully the UBT will do for blackjack what the WSOP has done for poker. As far as we can see, that is not far from happening!
